RECORD OF LODOSS WAR
EPISODE #1
"PROLOGUE TO THE LEGEND"

	Narrator
The era of gods which were thought to be eternal came to end.
The clashing between the armies of Falis, the supreme god of light, and
Falalis, the supreme god of darkness, split the heavens in two.
In the seemingly endless battle, the earth lamented and the oceans
trembled with fear.
The final clash between the survivors, Marfa, the goddess mother of
creation, and Kardis, the malevolent goddess of destruction, echoed to
the ends of the earth.
At the culmination of the extremely fierce battle, a continent separated,
newly creating a land on which both the goddesses of light and darkness
perished like a flame flickering away.
Several thousand years later, the land located south of the continent,
Araycrust, has been named the cursed island, "Lodoss."

(episode title)

<The six travellers toss their rain cloaks on the various statues in the
tunnel.>

	Woodchuck (Wood)
So...this is the "Great Dwarves' Tunnel." You could sell dwarves' crafts
for a fortune.

	Slayn
There was probably a great workmen's city here.

<Gim crushes part of an ancient wall design with his hand.>
	Gim
Hmph
That was ages ago.

	Wood
So...do we really gotta go through here t' get to Wort?

	Slayn
There are safer paths to travel, but we haven't got the time.

<Deidrit jumps down from a small ledge.>
	Deidrit (Deid)
It's very musty.

	Gim
If you don't like it, then wait here. That way, an elf won't be intruding onto
my ancestors' grounds.

	Deid
What did you say?

	Gim
Hmph

	Eto
Gim, Deidrit, stop it. If we don't meet Wort in time, all of Lodoss will be in
peril.

	Deid
I know, but...

	Pan
I'm only doing this cuz I want to. You don't have to come with me if you
don't want to.

	Deid
What did you say?

	Eto
This isn't the time for this, you two.

<Gargoyles come to life>

	Slayn
Wha'?

	Gim
Hmm

<The gargoyle attacks, and Woodchuck is dragged downward with the
gargoyle. He draws out his dirk and kills the gargoyle as they land on the
ground.>

	Pan
Wood

<Slayn points to a tunnel.>
	Slayn
Get inside. It's too dangerous.

<Pan grabs Woodchuck.>
	Pan
All right. Let's move it.

<The others leave, while Slayn is left alone.>
	Slayn
<He begins to chant when they leave>
<spell> That which was born from combining the almighty source and the
infinte power and forged by the god, shed your false clothing and appear in
your true form, becoming the barrier to protect us. The almighty source and
the infinite power. The almighty source and the infinite power.
<He repels the gargoyle back>
The almighty source and the infinite power. The almighty source and the
infinite power. The almighty source and the infinite power.
<The gargoyles are struck and once again are turned back into stone,
crumbling into pieces. The others are in the treasure room.>

<Woodchuck is looking at an old, unfinished statue.>
	Wood
I wish they would've finished this. We could get a fortune for this stuff.

<Deidrit finds a beautiful necklace and puts it on.>
	Deid
Ooh, how pretty.
<She turns to Pan>
Hey, how do I look?

	Pan
This isn't the time for that.

	Eto
You look great.

	Deid
Thanks.

	Gim
Who's there?

<Slayn enters the room, weak and weary.>
	Slayn
Feels like an evil presence is interfering.

<Back outside, the wind is blowing in the night. At a castle, an old man, Wort,
is sitting at a table, reading a large book. The wind suddenly begins blowing
in the room. Wort hears a voice.>

	Karla
They say that naught can outlast time.
Hath it been that long since the battle was fought within the labyrinth?
<Karla, the witch, suddenly begins to appear.>

	Wort
Who's there?

	Karla
Were thou not the one who protected me when thou charged into the horde
of monsters, Wort?

	Wort
Wha'?

	Karla
It appeareth thou remember the old legends, my fellow "Six Heroes."

	Wort
But..

	Karla
A body is merely an image, for in history, the era is insignificant.

BACK AT THE TUNNEL
<The others are walking around, still trying to find the exit.>

	Pan
How much longer?

	Slayn
We can't do anything except trust Gim's instinct.

	Gim
Just the size of this mammoth tunnel's legendary.

	Wood
Yo, hey, I'm leavin' it t' ya, but I don't wanna die in this place. Okay?

	Gim
Don't worry. This tunnel isn't a maze. We'll reach the exit soon enough.

	Deid
Hmph, it sure takes a long time when a dwarf guides, doesn't it? This place
sure gives me the creeps.

<They pass by a small pedestal in the wall which contains a beautiful
object. It catches Deidrit's eyes>

	Deid
Ah
<She steps up to it to touch it>

	Gim
No. Don't touch that.

	Deid
Wha'?

<As Deidrit looks toward Gim in confusion, the object sinks, catching her hand
in between one of the handles. As the others look on, the pedestal begins to
lower, and stone pillars begin to come out from the wall.>

<Pan runs toward her.>
	Pan
Deid
Let go.
<He grabs her hand, trying to pull her out>

	Deid
My hand...

<Pan gets pulled in with Deidrit, while the others are left standing,
watching them as they go lower and lower.>

	Eto
Pan

	Gim
Oh shit

	Eto
Deid

<At a castle, King Faunn is standing on the balcony. His thoughts dwell to the
past.>

FLASHBACK:
<At his court, Pan is kneeling before King Faunn.>

	Faunn
So, you are venturing forth to find Wort.

	Pan
Yes, the Marmo army has already captured Kannon and Alania. We must
place our fighting strength here in Vallis.

	Faunn
However, there is no guarantee that Wort will tell you anything or that there
will be any guarantee of a safe return.

	Pan
I know, but there's no other who knows so much about that witch, Karla.

	Faunn
Hmm
That armor...

	Pan
It's a keepsake of my father, Your Majesty's former retainer.

<Fade back to the present on the balcony.>

	Kashue
King Faunn

	Faunn
Oh, it is you, Lord Kashue.

	Kashue
The boy who calls himself Pan, he's a fine lad. He has a bright future ahead
of him.

	Faunn
I never thought I would have been able to meet Teseus's son. No, I
thought I had to go to see him.

	Kashue
Teseus?

	Faunn
I have never cursed my position as I did then.
Pan, come back alive.

BACK AT THE TUNNEL
<Pan and Deidrit are in a large room with large chunks of concrete
scattered all over.>

	Pan
What kind of place is this?

	Deid
Looks like we've been invited to some secret palace.

<Pan notices some concrete glowing with a strange light.>
	Pan
What's that?

	Deid
Oh, don't you know?
<She walks over and scrapes some glowing particles from the concrete until
her hands start to glow. She shows Pan, giggling>
Look.
<She claps her hand, and there is a brief flash of light>

	Pan
Anyway, we gotta get out of here as soon as possible and find the
others.
<He notices one of the large concrete>
Wha'?

	Deid
What's wrong?

<Pan wipes off part of the dust on the concrete.>
	Pan
Look.

	Deid
This is...

	Pan
Looks like a mural.

	Deid
Wait.
<spell> Fairy of light, mother power that nurtures plants, come to me.
<As Deidrit incants the spell, a flash of light appears in her cupped
hand. This ball of light begins to rise up toward the ceiling, creating
enough light for the two to see. Near the ceiling ia a mural of dragons and of
a battle.>

	Pan
This is...

	Deid
I've heard of this once. The era came to an end with the battle. The supreme
god of darkness, Falalis, drew out the virtuous, ancient dragons and evil gods
to battle against Falis's power of light. Although the light was strong, the
malevolent power was overpowering. As the result, the gods were destroyed
by their own powers.
<As she finishes, the light fades>
It's an old myth.

	Pan
They were destroyed by their own powers.

	Deid
I guess it means that they were probably too strong for each other.

	Pan
If they were really that strong, wasn't all that fighting unnecessary?

	Deid
Pan, those are strange words coming from a guy who wants to be a hero.

	Pan
Well, uh, it's just that...

	Deid
I don't understand you humans at all. But that's what makes you
interesting.

ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE TUNNEL

	Slayn
<spell> Give unto my staff, the power to banish darkness.
<His staff begins to glow, brightening the room>

	Wood
Well now, ya've something useful.

	Eto
We have to hurry up and rescue Pan.

	Gim
Don't worry about it. The elf's with him.
<He puts his finger to his mouth and then checks the air flow>
She can find her way out using the air flow in the tunnel.

	Wood
Hah, I don't get it. For a dwarf who hates elves, ya're takin' her side.

	Gim
Shut up. Only humans would let their feelings get in the way about
other's capabilities.

	Wood
Hah

BACK TO PAN AND DEIDRIT
<Deidrit stands on a pedestal in the center of the room. She motions her hand
out and begins a spell.>

	Deid
<spell> Sylph, fairy of the wind, guide me through with the flow of your
wind. Sylph, fairy of the wind, guide me through with the flow of your wind.
<The wind begins to blow, and Pan looks on as Deedrit begins to float
upwards. The wind takes her in the proper direction>
Thank you, Sylph.

BACK AT WORT'S CASTLE
<Both are watching Pan and Deidrit in the crystal ball.>

	Wort
One of the "Six Heroes" being feared as the "Grey Witch?" What are you
scheming?

	Karla
Dost thou know there lieth a dragon that hateth to be awakened at the end
of the tunnel?

BACK AT THE TUNNEL
<Deidrit is leading Pan out when she suddenly stops and jumps back.>

	Deid
Wha?

	Pan
What's wrong, Deid?

<At the same moment elsewhere, Slayn stops also, looking shocked.>
	Slayn
Wha'?

	Wood
Hey, what's wrong? Why did ya suddenly stop?

	Eto
Slayn, is there something wrong?

BACK WITH PAN AND DEIDRIT
<They stay back within the tunnel, listening to the dragon's footsteps.>

	Pan
Deid

	Deid
Shh...don't make a sound.

<The dragon looks around a collapsed structure.>

	Pan
I'll lead him off. Get out through that opening.

	Deid
Don't say such nonsense. Oops

<The dragon attacks. Pan tries to defend themselves with his sword.>
	Pan
Deid, what's his weakness?

	Deid
How am I supposed to know that?

	Pan
Shit
<Pan tries to thrust forward, but the dragon catches his sword with its
tongue, tossing it away.>
Oh shit
<As Pan and Deidrit prepare themselves for the fire, a force field protects
them from harm.>
Slayn

<As they look up, the others arrive to the ledge overlooking the room.>

	Eto
Are you all right?

	Wood
This is a surprise.

<The dragon's tail sweeps over the ledge, knocking everyone except Gim off.
Slayn falls, losing conscious.>

	Eto
Slayn

	Wood
Are ya all right?
<He turns toward the dragon>
Shit. We're no good t' eat.

	Gim
We'll eat him first.

<As Deidrit makes it to the others. Pan is solely fighting the dragon.>

	Deid
Pan's in danger. Gim, what're you doing?

	Gim
Shut up. A dwarf has his own way of fighting.

	Deid
Pan

<Gim jumps off the ledge as Deidrit screams and rushes toward the
dragon with his battleaxe. He takes it and drives it down on the dragon's
nose.>

	Pan
Gim

<As the dragon tries to shake it off. Gim is thrown away. Pan and Deidrit go
to him.>

	Deid
Gim

<As the dragon reels in pain, Pan takes out his sword.>

	Pan
It's now or never.
<He drives it up the dragon's chin, wounding it. The dragon twists and turns
in pain, shaking the room which begins to collapse.>
Come on.

<They rush out into one of the tunnel branches. They keep running.>

	Eto
All right. It's the exit.

BACK AT WORT'S CASTLE
<They see the entire situation in the crystal ball.>

	Wort
Looks like they've gotten through that trouble. Now then...

	Karla
Leave us wait. 'Tis why I travelled this far.

	Wort
It has nothing to do with me, but Lodoss is trembling.

	Karla
The balance of history swayeth to settle itself. 'Tis all I ask for.

<In the crystal ball, the six adventurers walk happily along, continuing with
their journey.>

	Narrator
Their adventure has just begun, and they will have many more
confrontations as they venture onward to their uncertain destiny.

<Karla looks on.>

if you subtitle, DO NOT DISTRIBUTE the subtitled copy. If you do, you
will be in the act of piracy and if you're caught, you'll be in serious
shit. Subtitled copies can be obtained from William Chow at
wchow@questor.wimsey.bc.ca as soon as they subtitles
